Yeah I'm a Sooner!

Most of my friends and family already know this, but I graduated from the University of Oklahoma, and even though I only lived in Oklahoma during school, that makes me a Sooner for life. Unfortunately, the football team was in really bad shape while I was there and only made one bowl (my freshman year). Fortunately, things have turned around since I left and they won a national championship in 2000 and have several Big 12 titles since then as well.

It has been harder to keep up with OU football since I moved to Seattle after graduation since we're square in the middle of Pac 10 country. Luckily, it is a bit easier when the team is playing well because the regional channels pick up their games and I don't have to try to find sports bars. Of course, as Kim can attest, I can tend to get stressed out while watching OU games, so sometimes I end up not watching in order to save my sanity.

The good news for me is that my good friend Jerry (who I went to school with at OU, and who is a much bigger OU fan than I am since he grew up in Oklahoma City and has been an OU fan his entire life) recently moved to Seattle with his wife and daughter. So now, I have a fellow OU fan to watch games with, talk about the team with, etc. Even better - OU plays in Seattle against the University of Washington in 2008, and we'll definitely be there to see it. Both of our wives went to UW for their bachelors' degrees, so it will be somewhat of a family feud. :-)

For the Sooner fans out there or just for sports fans in general, make sure to check out this video clip that shows Malcolm Kelly (wide receiver, #4) freestyle rapping in the locker room after OU beat Nebraska in the 2006 Big 12 Championship game.
