Xbox 360 achievement points

Some of the guys I play Xbox 360 games with have tended to try to get as many achievement points as we can while playing games. These achievement points signify accomplishing certain tasks within a game. Each normal Xbox 360 game that you can buy on a disc at a store contains 1000 points worth of achievements, and each arcade game you can download on Xbox Live contains 200 points worth of achievements.

These achievements are essentially meaningless, but the point total appears next to your gamer tag on Xbox Live and on the Xbox web site. At a high level, they are things we can collect, we've tended to try to collect them just because we can.

Whenever you get an achievement, an animation appears in the game with the name of the achievement and the number of points.

Jeff, Murray, Pete and I have been trying to finish off some of the achievements on Rainbow 6: Vegas, and to illustrate our obsession, you can take a look at this spreadsheet that Pete created to keep track of our progress.
